The Divergent Project welcomes neuro-divergent people across Lincolnshire into a programme of strength training and online support to empower confidence and self-acceptance.

Led by lived experience, we will encourage you to explore your authentic neuro-divergent self, develop new friendship groups and improve your mental and physical health.
You can choose from women-only strength training groups in our gym in Lincoln, or mixed gender online group classes for exercise, cooking, journaling or peer support, via Zoom.
Neurodivergence is a broad umbrella of neurotypes that includes autism, ADHD, dyslexia and mental health. We are LGBTQI+ friendly and can support people with a range of complex health conditions.

Sessions are pre-bookable

This is good for wellbeing because

  • All our coaches are fully qualified and insured personal trainers, with a range of additional specialist qualifications such as pre/postnatal, exercise referral, menopause, cancer rehabilitation, neurological conditions and Mental Health First Aid. We will train an additional two coaches in Suicide First Aid and they will also have enhanced DBS checks. This enables our coaches to develop their programming to meet the individual physical and mental health needs of each participant in a professional and compassionate manner
  • The gym environment will be adapted to suit neuro-divergent people, including low lighting and noise, alongside a culture of acceptance and empowerment. The lived experience of neurodivergence at all levels of the organisation ensures that we have a personal understanding of the needs of our participants and how to support them to embrace their divergence. We have included a small accessibility budget to support any additional needs that our participants may face due to their vulnerability.
  • This will be allocated as required, according to their individual needs, such as travel, appropriate gym clothing or cooking equipment.  In this way, we will deliver our commitments to this project, and our organisation, to the highest standard, with a focus on reducing social isolation, contributing to mental health recovery and encouraging resilience and wellbeing. All of which will reduce their risk of suicidal ideation and suicidal behaviours

I am feeling so empowered and literally joyful with my progress – gaining fitness, health, and confidence in equal measure.
