Beyond The Spectrum is a UK wide autism arts and creative writing programme led by and for Autistic writers, which fosters creativity, wellbeing and community for our participants.

Beyond the Spectrum is a three-year UK-wide creative writing programme for Autistic people, led by professional Autistic writers.

The project is completely free to attend and we have workshops available on different days to suit your availability. A formal diagnosis is not required, nor is any writing experience.

To get involved you can sign up via the Beyond the Spectrum website.

The programme takes the form of in-person and online creative writing groups, where participants write together, learn and support each other.

The programme is open to both Autistic adults and young people, who take part in writing workshops, events, festivals and masterclasses.

By taking part, participants gain confidence in their experience of autism and writing skills, build a community and have fun!

This is good for wellbeing because

  • Learn a new or develop an existing skill whilst expressing yourself through creative writing.
  • Join a community of Autistic people to learn, write and support each other.
  • Signposting to relevant Autism support services or other groups when relevant.

It's nice being around people that get it.

We don't necessarily always talk about autism, but it feels easier to accept yourself.
