Hensell Goat Rescue Care Farm offers Animal Assisted Therapy through interaction with friendly rescued goats and other animals.

We offer a welcoming farm setting with fully accessible facilities and a cosy on‑site café, where individuals, groups and schools can enjoy animal‑assisted therapy and a range of hands‑on wellbeing activities.

This is good for wellbeing because

  • Supports Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing - Spending time with animals has been shown to reduce stress, lower anxiety and lift mood. Gentle interactions such as grooming, feeding or simply being near animals can help calm the nervous system, encourage mindfulness and provide a sense of comfort. This creates a therapeutic experience that supports positive mental health for people of all ages.

  • Accessible Facilities and Open Green Space in a Safe, Calm Environment - Our fully accessible farm gives everyone the opportunity to enjoy nature without barriers. The large, peaceful outdoor spaces offer room to breathe, relax and unwind, helping reduce feelings of overwhelm or pressure. Being in a safe, natural setting promotes a sense of freedom and connection with the environment, which is beneficial for both physical and emotional wellbeing.

  • Builds Confidence and Self‑Esteem - Taking part in hands‑on activities—such as caring for animals, completing tasks around the farm or trying something new—helps people develop a sense of achievement. These experiences encourage independence, responsibility and pride. Over time, individuals often notice growing confidence in themselves and their abilities, boosting self‑esteem and resilience.

I never thought I would be confident to do what I do here on the farm, you have helped me so much
