Land and Leaf Collective - Seedlings Nature Play

Back to Activities
Last Updated: 28/08/2024

Weekly sessions for families with younger children and babies, to spend time in nature; using the senses to explore the woodland and use natural materials in play.

Seedlings sessions are rooted in forest school principles and slow pedagogy to support sensitive, nurturing relationships that lay the foundation for lifelong mental and physical health.

Sessions follow a rhythm of seasonal songs, stories and activities that support connection with nature, develop secure attachments between parent/carer and child and support positive parental mental wellbeing.

All taking place in a beautiful woodland setting. First time expectant families are also welcome.

These programmes are open to families with children aged 0 - 5 years and expectant first time parents.

All sessions take place at Old Wood Organic in Skellingthorpe, Lincolnshire.

This is good for wellbeing because

  • Parents, including first time expectant parents, can connect with others at the same stages of parenting and take time to talk and share in facilitated talking circles.
  • Throughout sessions, parents and children take part in seasonal creative activities that follow the nature connection pathway, supporting mindfulness, and learning techniques that can be used to support mental wellbeing outside of sessions.
  • Sharing activities, ideas and feelings reinforces not only our sense of self, but also adds worth and value to the community.
  • Indeed, the more the merrier applies in this case!
  • Also the huge beneficial effect sharing can have on mental health: higher engagement, positive emotions, and empowerment are only some of the benefits.
  • Sharing is caring.
  • The first 2000 days of a child's life, from conception to age 5 years, has more influence on a child’s future than any other time in life.
  • The right nutrition together with early learning opportunities and protection from trauma during the days from pregnancy to 6 years can have a profound impact on a child’s ability to grow, learn and thrive.
  • Spending time in a supportive community and beautiful woodland setting supports parental mental wellbeing and opportunities to learn skills that support healthy infant and child development.

The people that run the group are absolutely fantastic.

I may have only been once so far but I immediately felt calmer and very welcome.

The way my daughter has taken to everyone is amazing and I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to send her here.

Can’t wait for our next visit.
