Swimming, Gym and Fitness Classes

Casual Swimming

Family and Casual Swimming Sessions We offer a variety of family-friendly swimming sessions that encourage families to get active together. Some of these are aimed at specific groups e.g. toddler splash for families with active little ones or inflatable fun for older children who are more confident in deep water.

Fancy a lane swim?

We have dedicated lane swimming sessions at each of our centres... early morning sessions for the early risers, lunchtime sessions, and even evening sessions for those who enjoy a relaxing swim to unwind after a hard day at work.

Did you know? Exercising in water offers six times as much resistance as air. This resistance is what makes lane swimming such great exercise. Also, because the water supports your body weight, there is no impact on your joints meaning lane swimming is a great way to recover from injury or continue exercising throughout your life no matter your age!

Our sessions cater for all abilities with lanes of varying speeds. Please choose your lane based on the speed of the other participants in the session.

Swim School

Our Swim Schools follow the Swim England Learn to Swim Programme, the industry-leading programme for delivering safe, inclusive and effective swimming lessons for all ages.

The flexible and affordable Swim School Programme caters for all levels of ability, from beginners to those who want to develop their skills and competence in the water.

Central to our Swim School Programme is water safety, we believe learning to swim is not only about water confidence but water competence.

This is good for wellbeing because

  • Scientific research has offered various reasons as to why swimming and being near water positively benefits our mental health and wellbeing.  Swimming, like all exercise, releases endorphins in your brain. These are the hormones that make you feel good. They help to increase positivity and bring about a sense of wellbeing and happiness.  Some research has shown that swimming may help to treat stress. For example, a few studies in rats have found that swimming can help to promote the growth of new brain cells in parts of the brain that break down during chronic
  • Exercise controls weight - Exercise can help prevent excess weight gain or help maintain weight loss. When you engage in physical activity, you burn calories. The more intense the activity, the more calories you burn. Regular trips to the gym are great, but don't worry if you can't find a large chunk of time to exercise every day. Any amount of activity is better than none at all. To reap the benefits of exercise, just get more active throughout your day — take the stairs instead of the elevator or rev up your household chores. Consistency is key.
  • Boosts brain health - A healthy blood flow is important for keeping your brain healthy and can protect it from harmful toxins. One small study has found that just being in water increases the blood flow to the brain. The study participants were placed in water up to chest height. Scientists then measured blood flow to the brain while they were in the water, and when they drained the pool. These findings suggest that swimming boosts brain health.
  • Going to the gym (and exercise in general) isn’t solely about getting fitter and building muscle. Sure, several gym sessions a week will enhance physical health, help you build the physique you desire, tighten your waist, boost your sex life, and potentially even extend your life – but these aren’t always the reasons people frequent the gym on a regular basis.
  • The sense of well-being felt after a workout is one of the most common reasons why people go to the gym. Going to the gym has a myriad of positive physical benefits, but it can also increase energy levels throughout the day, improve sleep duration and quality, induce feelings of positivity, and reduce stress and anxiety.
  • Soothes your mind and reduces anxiety - It’s thought that swimming is a particularly good way to relax your body, soothe your mind and reduce anxiety. The calming effect of the colour blue - The colour blue is often thought of as calming. Being near, in or under water is also thought to make you happier and healthier.
  • Exercise and Anxiety - Going to the gym is also a 100% natural way to reduce anxiety. It can help to relieve stress and tension, promote endorphin release, and boost mental energy. To get the most out of exercise sessions, it is best to pay attention rather than zone out. For example, focus on your breathing, or the sound of your feet hitting the ground, or each repetition as you push the weight. By doing this, you add a ‘mindfulness’ element to your workout, which will not only help you to put everything you have into the workout, but also help to interrupt the flow of stress, worries, and anxiety flowing through your head.
