Lincoln Invictus Walking Football Club - Walking football sessions for anyone aged 18 or over, but particularly those aged 50+, male or female, looking to improve and maintain health and mental well-being, whether or not they have played football or any other sport before.

The Club provides walking football sessions 3 times a week throughout the year. Sessions are mixed, but on Monday and Friday mornings, we run a separate pitch for ladies, which is aimed particularly at ladies who may never have played football before, and want an interesting and stimulating way to get fit or fitter. The ladies' pitch is run by a UEFA B-qualified coach, and the sessions are intended to be fun and relaxed.

Session Days and Times

Mondays – 10 am to 11 am (mixed pitches and a ladies' pitch)

Wednesdays – 7 pm to 8 pm (mixed)

Fridays – 10 am to 11 am (mixed pitches and a ladies' pitch)

We ask people to arrive at least 15 mins beforehand, which enables everyone to warm up to reduce the risk of injury, and also to meet and chat with other players.

Venue

All of our sessions are at Ruston’s Sports & Bar, Newark Road, Lincoln, LN6 8RN

Costs

The first session is free. After that, it costs £5 per session.

But anyone playing regularly will benefit from taking out an annual membership. We have 3 levels:

1 session weekly - £120 per year

2 sessions weekly - £180 per year

3 sessions weekly - £230 per year

(Annual fees are prorated for anyone joining partway through our membership year, which runs from 1 August to 31 July).

This is good for wellbeing because

  • Walking football is a safer form of football that is ideally suited to older age-groups. It's easy for people to become isolated as they age, but playing a safer team sport like walking football brings back the sense of belonging and camaraderie that many, older people can feel is lacking once they have retired or have perhaps suffered bereavement.

  • We play in an outdoor setting, giving people the opportunity to get out into the fresh air, but with a purpose, and in a way that may feel less like exercise than other activities on offer. The combination of being outdoors, and working with others to achieve an outcome for the team is good for both physical and mental health.

  • We use the bar at our venue for coffee and biscuits after sessions so that players can relax and meet and chat with others after the game, building on and extending the sense of community and belonging, which is so vital to everyone's health and well-being.
