Children’s centres are designed to support all families with children from birth to five (siblings up to age 8 in holidays). Each centre offers a different mix of activities including drop in, baby massage, international groups, midwifery, and child health appointments.
You are welcome to attend any children’s centre. All sessions are free and any adult caring for a child can access the centres, including grandparents, foster carers and childminders
All centres offer:
- child and family health services
- drop in early years play sessions
- advice and information for families
- childcare and early education
- support for parents on a range of issues
- training and employment advice
- outreach services to children and families not attending the centre
What to expect
A friendly welcome with an opportunity to look round the centre and find out about the activities on offer. There are baby changing facilities, toilets, disabled access, and a breastfeeding friendly environment.
This is good for wellbeing because
- Children's centres provide your child the opportunity to get a great start in life, through accessing opportunities to learn and develop new skills, gaining independence, and socialising with other children to develop positive social interactions.
- We offer fantastic support for parents and carers by giving families the opportunity to access support for transition from pregnancy to parenthood, through to your child starting school.
- Parenting is not always easy, so children’s centres offer an opportunity to meet new people and make friends, with friendly staff available to support and offer advice.
It has given me confidence to go out and try new things.

Made me feel like I am not alone and other people experience the same problems and feelings.
When I first came to the Children Centre sessions I had no idea what being ready for Nursery meant – since coming I have seen him enjoy meeting new people, his character is coming through and despite his struggles he is flourishing. Thank you for helping my son grow and providing a fun safe place to play and learn.
