Old Wood Organic CIC, is a nature-connected community supporting the management of everyday mental health and well-being needs.
Woodland Wellbeing Programme:
We currently have funded (free) places available on our woodland wellbeing programme for individuals aged 18 and over who are referred or self-refer for mental health and wellbeing support. The programme is offered across three sites: Mint Lane Cafe, Old Wood in Skellingthorpe, and Struch Hill Woods in Doddington. For participants in villages outside of Lincoln, a free minibus is available to transport them to green spaces. All sessions are held weekly during term time in eight-week blocks. Additionally, we run family-friendly Eco-craft sessions four times a year.
Our activities include:
- Yoga
- Therapeutic Gardening and Horticulture
- Mindful Movement
- Volunteering (gardening or woodland management)
- Sustainable Eco-Crafting
Forestry and Horticulture Volunteering:
We offer opportunities for volunteers to join our woodland and garden management team during the spring/summer and autumn/winter seasons. Our activities take place in our no-dig garden and woodland areas. We use woodland gardening as a way to educate people about the environment, support their wellbeing, and improve physical, mental, and spiritual health.
Volunteer activities may vary, but some examples include:
- Sowing seeds
- Growing food in our garden
- Composting
- Sustainable building
- Coppicing
- Clearing paths
Volunteering with us can benefit your wellbeing by:
- Helping you feel more connected to nature
- Providing time for relaxation
- Allowing you to meet new people
- Enabling you to learn new skills
- Improving your physical health
This is good for wellbeing because
- You feel more connected to nature
- You take time out and feel more relaxed
- You meet and get to know new people
- You learn a new skill
- Improves your physical health
- Reduces feelings of stress, anxiety, anger and depression
I have to say what a wonderful person she (Atma) is. She is kind, calming and so knowledgeable. I am finding both courses (Yoga and Mindfulness) thoroughly rewarding, and they are having an impact on my mental and physical health. I thoroughly recommend people try her courses.
I am enjoying the No-Dig community gardening course with Ben. I have been able to learn how to grow organic veg in a beautiful accent woodland, look forward to joining more courses at Old Wood Organic.
