Yoga For All

My classes are for all abilities, I modify the exercises, so they can be done from a chair if necessary. It is a gentle yet deeply rejuvenating system, centred on good breathing, spinal alignment encouraging freedom, flexibility, and strength.

This is good for wellbeing because

  • Everyone is able to complete the exercise or posture in the way that is right for them, whether that is seated on a chair, standing or lying down. This helps us to be more aware and relate to our bodies positively. It brings us home to be in the present moment. It enables us to be present, in the present moment, which is the essence of mindfulness.
  • I structure the class so that the student can start to settle and become calmer when they enter. We start with some simple conscious breathing to activate the body's natural relaxation response (parasympathetic nervous system). We then mobilise joints, “motion is lotion”, and then work on stretching, stabilising, strengthening and learning what and how our own body wants to move in an organic way to achieve a more positive, expansive way. I really appreciate how you are able to adapt the postures to everyone's needs in which to live, breath and be.
  • The postures create a sense of lightness and stability. Tension is released from muscles, and the breathing techniques help to release tension from the diaphragm, so breathing is free and easeful. This then has a knock-on effect on the mind and body.

I really enjoy your yoga classes. I find your sessions both invigorating and calming. I am grateful for the way you adapt the postures to everyone's needs so no-one is left out and we can all feel the benefit. the breathing exercises really help me to relax and stay calm when i am feeling stressed. I walk taller and with more ease after a class. I notice I am stiffer than usual if I have to miss a class. Thank you.
