A support group, established in 2021 by Rachael and Sara, two local, professional women who were both diagnosed with breast cancer in their forties.
We both found there was no local peer-to-peer support when we needed it most, so we made the easy decision to create an informal group for local women and men who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, going through treatment or who have completed treatment.
Our plan is to get together once a month for an informal, relaxed, confidential chat; an opportunity to meet others and share our personal experiences, allaying some of the fears and anxieties we all have. A chance to talk about the “stuff” the professionals don’t tell us about, and the effect it has on our lives and the lives of our families on a daily basis.
An opportunity to ask the questions and vent our emotions with others who understand. Our ultimate aim is to help reduce anxieties, improve our sense of wellbeing and help empower each other through support.

This is good for wellbeing because
- It gives everyone an opportunity to meet others who are experiencing similar issues and talk about stuff the professionals don't tell you.
- It gives our group members someone to talk to at all times and get support whenever needed, many of our members have made new friends and are enjoying the social aspect of the group.
- The group helps alleviate the anxieties of our members by enabling them to discuss their fears with people who have been through similar experiences.
We get so many messages of thanks from the ladies in the group who have found new friends who they can speak to about their experiences of breast cancer. Partners can listen, but don't understand what we are going though, mentally and physically.
