Building Brighter Futures

Back to Support
Last Updated: 15/07/2024

Funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, Building Brighter Futures (BBF), is situated at Grantham College.

We work with individuals (16+) who are furthest removed from employment and/or education to support them closer towards or into employment and education with a focus on community engagement and wellbeing support. Each individuals receives tailored, holistic support that is agreed upon with the person and we work flexibly according to needs.

Located in Grantham College but we also meet participants offsite as and when appropriate e.g. Jubilee Life Church, B-hive community centre, Grantham Library, Wyndham Park and so forth. It can be flexible according to participant preference and need but generally we meet people for an initial conversation on college grounds.

This is good for wellbeing because

  • Our key focuses are around wellbeing and supporting people to have positive, healthy attitudes and techniques in managing their physical and mental health. We are able to provide support to build self-confidence and self-belief, to educate and encourage self-compassion, acceptance and resilience.
  • Loneliness is a huge mental health issue with lack of connection being as unhealthy for people as smoking, recent studies show. We are a growing community with community events such as coffee mornings, wellbeing walks and more. We bring together participants to share ideas, experiences and to build connections with each other thus reducing social isolation.
  • The pressures of modern life can be overwhelming particularly for vulnerable people. Our project welcomes everyone regardless of background to support them in unique, diverse ways whether that be managing their Universal Credit account, contacting the Home Office, addressing debt, setting up payments for bills, assisting with social housing enquiries or concerns and more.

The project has been described as a "heart warming family" by a participant which is particularly moving as many of our participants are estranged from family or have challenges in their families, so to know the project can provide familial support and care demonstrates how important it is to people.
