Carers' Sitter Service

Back to Support
Last Updated: 15/07/2024

We are a registered charity who offer a free at-home sitting service to enable carers to have a few hours away from the person they care for.

We have trained volunteers (who are all referenced and DBS checked) who will sit at the carer's home to keep their loved one company.

We are based at Wake House in Bourne. Our office is open Tuesdays and Thursdays 9.30am to 2.30pm. We cover Stamford, Bourne, The Deepings and the surrounding PE9 villages.

This is good for wellbeing because

  • Carers need time for themselves and having a sitter allows them the freedom to do that, without making them feel guilty for going out, and also without having to pay for additional support.
  • Our sitters have been known to build up a good relationship with both the carer and the dependent, offering a different face to share their concerns with.
  • The person who the sitter is with has an opportunity to make a new friend and often reminisce and talk of their emotions.

My wife and I have been beneficiaries of the Sitter Service for a while now. After an assessment, a volunteer sitter was assigned to us who visits one morning each week. Her visits have made a world of different; for me a period to relax, for my wife some social interaction with someone who is not me. The charity is based and run locally for people like us, fulfilling a vital role in our community and they deserve our support. I’m so pleased I found out about them and they were able to support us.
