Cherry Chums - Assist Dementia Support Group

Back to Support
Last Updated: 15/07/2024

Cherry Chums provides a weekly dementia support group offering care, guidance and support, free refreshments and a wide range of creative and fun activities for those living with dementia and their carers.

This is good for wellbeing because

  • Time is spent on a variety of activities, such as:
    • seated exercises
    • singing
    • arts and crafts
    • reminiscence activities and games, which help people living with dementia to be proactive and engaged, and remind them of the many meaningful things they have done in their lives.
  • Attending the group can be of real benefit to carers as they are able to meet other people and share their experiences, give support to each other, and often make friends.
  • It offers people a place where they can feel connected to others who are going through similar experiences in a comfortable and safe environment, addressing social exclusion, and therefore avoiding the isolation that can result.

I feel my husband who has dementia really enjoys himself here, so for me it makes it easier to manage him.
