
Supporting Travellers throughout Lincolnshire with education, employment, healthcare and advocacy.
LTI has four main areas of operation
Education - teaching young Travellers age 11-16
Functional Skills; Maths, English, ITC
King's Trust Wellbeing Courses plus First Aid
STEM Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths; teaching the Science element which comes under the STEM scheme of qualifications.
Adult Training - leading into employment
Health & Safety at Work, Food Handling and Hygiene and a wide range of vocational courses – construction site safety certificate, handling hazardous substances (cleaning), working in adult care etc.
Preventative Healthcare
Healthy cooking, smoking cessation, early cancer detection, walking in nature
Advocacy
Help with anything that is needed; benefits advice, accommodation matters, reading and filling out documents etc
Day to day activities that LTI currently have on offer
- Weekly teaching of approximately 90 young Travellers, aged 11-16, across 12 different Traveller sites.
- Delivering training in peoples’ homes
- Health and Employment training
- Hand-holding to appointments, doctors, dentists, hospitals etc.
- Visit schools alongside families to enrol children in schools. These are available throughout: Gainsborough, Saxilby, Washingborough, Brigg, Grantham, Boston, Spalding and Holbeach.
Mental health support
The service also offers mental health support around the following areas
- Well Woman Groups – regular visits from health teams, walking, fitness classes, outings, delivery of food parcels, play packs etc.
- Advocacy work – visiting peoples’ homes to offer support around form filling; passport, driving licence, benefits etc and reading of letters.
This is good for wellbeing because
- The activities on offer increase self-confidence.
- Address inequalities and promote community cohesion.
- Build strong, trusted, supportive relationships and enable access to many services.
