The Long Sutton Men's Shed is a volunteer led not for profit community charity. We bring together older men to share their skills and learn new skills in a safe haven amongst like minded men.
We help men who maybe feeling socially isolated, lonely, depressed or men who just want to take part in a variety of interesting activities.
Our members come to us and shortly improve their wellbeing, they share and learn new skills.
Make new friends and join in with our extensive community projects.
We have many work benches, available for our members and a large well equipped machine workshop.
An Engineering department, a new model railway and modelling/craft area.
Silver surfers computer section to help our member with their IT/internet issues.
Our quiet room funded by Shine Lincolnshire facilitates confidential discussions, presentations, meetings and an extensive fiction and technical library.
We have an area for private and confidential discussions and if required, signposting our members to appropriate professional assistance.
There is also a large kitchen and an extensive relaxing area where members congregate over a cuppa and a biscuit.
We also have a qualified medical first aid officer and health and safety officer.
There is a cost to attend.
This is good for wellbeing because
- We help to support older men to overcome feelings of loneliness, social isolation, anxiety, depression and other mental health issues.
- We bring together (mainly older men) to share experiences, listen to each others individual stories and help each other and the community via many interesting and worthwhile projects and a variety of other activities.
- Our members make new friends and companions, they share skills and learn new skills and spend time chatting with like minded members over a cuppa and a biscuit.
- Men join our shed and very shortly improve their mental health and wellbeing. They gain companionship and a reason to get out of their homes to come to the shed and be amongst friendly men all willing to support fellow members.
- We provide a friendly and safe haven for our members, together with a large relaxation area.
Having been in a very dark place, he now finds that life has turned around thanks in the main to the Long Sutton Men's shed, which he attends 3 x a week.
He has made new friends and acquaintances and meeting very interesting people from a wide range of backgrounds and interesting personal experiences.
The Shed saved my life, I was in a dark place before I joined the shed and now I cannot wait to attend the Shed meetings to be amongst friends and companions.
