Last Updated: 15/07/2024

Pilgrims Connect which includes Positive Pilgrims mental health group and our over 55’s programme Golden Goal session. Both sessions have an environment that is very welcoming to newcomers.

The aim is to connect local community groups and partners to engage and access the amazing opportunities and activities within the groups we have here at the football club.

Golden Goal which is our over 55’s programme runs on a Thursday morning 10am-12pm, this social session sees its members turn up and have tea + coffee and a chat and then take part in sports such as pool/table tennis/indoor archery/darts/table top games and even use the Nintendo Wii for a fun game of tennis and bowling. As stated before the group is very welcoming to new members joining so please come along and give it a try and even better the first 4 sessions are completely free with the charge of £3 thereafter.

The Positive Pilgrims mental health group which is accessible for both male and females aged 16+ takes place on a Friday morning 11am-12pm and is completely FREE of charge for the first year (until 31st March 2024) this will hopefully see an influx of new participants access the programme. After the 31st March 2024 the group will be back to its original £4 per session. The group is a mental health football group that is accessible to all those who suffer with mental health or support/care for anyone with mental health. The group is designed to improve people’s mental health and wellbeing through football and also give people the confidence to be part of a team and socialise with others.

There is a cost to attend - but there are some free resources, eg trial session, online tasters, Facebook community.

This is good for wellbeing because

  • The Pilgrims Connect Programme is good for well-being as it tackles the stigma of being or feeling alone and allows you to socialise with your peers and connect with new people within the wider community.
  • The Pilgrims Connect Programme is good for well-being as it encourages positive mental health through exercise whether that is indoor activities or football.
  • The Pilgrims Connect Programme is good for well-being as it improves peoples confidence and self esteem through engagement and sporting activities and the willingness to try new things.

Golden Goal has been the best thing to happen to me since I lost my wife a few years back, I was encouraged and supported to attend the group through my family and I am so pleased they did so. I have met some fantastic people from coming here and it is great to have a go at all the games that the coaches set out, I thoroughly enjoy being around them all as they helped me so much cope with everything.
