Veterans' Group

Back to Support
Last Updated: 15/07/2024

We have a designated veterans drop in on a Tuesday, at our location in Holbeach which has steadily grown, with more people dropping in. We have had visits from the RAFBF, Help for Heroes and the RBL.

We are also supported by an onsite counsellor, who is present through the drop-in and other times through the week. This is a free service due to funding through Shine and the NHS.

The provision has continually supported around 20 people, the demographic has been predominantly veterans, but we have also supported the families of veterans that are struggling to access support for those that cannot do so themselves. This has included support with form filling, contacting the relevant agencies with regard to pension enquires, as well as check-ins and phone calls. We have also continued to support those veterans from the previous year with phone calls and home visits when required.

Open to all members of the service community and for veterans and their families.

This is good for wellbeing because

  • It provides a space for veterans and the service community to engage with others.
  • Provides other service charities the opportunity to meet with those in need of support.
  • It shows we care about our veteran and service family.

Without the help of Ruth at Tonic Health and Rob as the Veterans Support (also at Tonic Health), I would not be in a position to help anyone, let alone myself. Without the Men's Group and Veterans Support sessions, I would not have found much of the help I now have, including support to record an advert for the Veteran's Lottery which took me so far away from my comfort zone. With the help and support of Rob, I had the confidence to open up and do it. It is now running on national TV, something I would not have believed I could do at the start of my journey. During these sessions I have made some good friends, which has much improved both my wellbeing and my mental health, for which I will always be grateful. A massive thank you has to go to the two above who have not just supported me in my journey, but have challenged me along the way to improve myself as a person. So much so, I am now a certified Mental Health First Aider and running the Night Light Cafe sessions for Tonic Health. Ian, British Army Veteran
